3. A vehicle is at its most stable when travelling in a straight line with the correct gear engaged appropriate to the speed and under gentle acceleration.

Braking, changing gear and steering all individually affect the stability of the vehicle. Applying all these together will seriously increase instability. If such an action has become necessary, the cause is likely to be, poor observations, lack of planning and low concentration.

The consequences of such a high increase in instability is the likelihood of skidding.
